HPS is generally composed of hydraulic pump, oil pipe, oil storage tank and other components. The motor energy comes from the engine. In order to maintain the pressure, the system must always be in working condition no matter whether power steering is required or not. EPS is generally composed of a mechanical steering gear and an electronic control servo system. The energy of the motor comes from the on-board battery. If the steering does not occur, the system will be in a dormant state waiting to be called.
Permanent magnet materials in the traditional automotive field are mainly used in EPS. EPS is more and more widely used in the field of passenger vehicles due to its advantages of small weight, low energy consumption and high sensitivity. Compared with HPS and EHPS, EPS has obvious advantages in maneuverability, stability, driver's sense of road, system reaction speed, environmental pollution, weight, aerodynamic performance, fuel consumption, transmission efficiency, etc. The carrying rate of EPS in China's market is about 65%, and the corresponding EPS market scale is 16.4 million pieces []. NdFeB permanent magnetic material is the core material for EPS production. The weight of NdFeB required for each EPS is about 0.25kg. Only the current demand for NdFeB in China's EPS market can reach about 4100t. Under the trend of strict regulations on automobile fuel consumption limits, automobile electrification and intelligence, the assembly rate of China's automobile EPS is expected to increase rapidly, and the demand for NdFeB will also further increase.
